Alumnae Hall
Biography & Highlights
Heavy bass shakes the brickwork outside 194 Meeting St before you even hit the sidewalk. Providence nights get freezing fast, and Alumnae Hall doesn't care if you're shivering in line while security checks IDs at a snail's pace. You're walking into an old campus hall that traded lecture desks for a towering stage, and it feels massive once you're past the threshold.
The floor is wide open wood that bounces when the whole crowd jumps together. Sound bounces off the high ceilings like crazy, so bring earplugs if you don't want your ears ringing until Sunday afternoon. It's not your usual dingy basement dive. There's real room to breathe near the edges, even when indie rock crowds pack the middle tight against the barricades.
Exit signs glow bright green over the side doors. You'll catch locals spilling out onto Meeting Street right after the final encore, looking for late-night slices. Don't bother looking for a coat check because there isn't one, so just keep your jacket tied around your waist while you're moshing near the front rows.
